We are a group of women from Peru who love to dance. Afro Peruvian music is happy , festive and full of rhythm. We would love to share this happiness with you.

PERFORMANCE: On the Armory Main Stage

WORKSHOP:

High Intensity Afro Peruvian Dance with lots of Percussion: Cajon, Congas, Bongo, Quijada. Great way to practice loosening the hips and shoulders, which helps with latin dances well as super fun workout.

GORDY ONAYEMI RYAN

Gordy Ryan played with Babatunde Olatunji for decades and continues to lead the summer sessions at the Olatunji Hall on Cortes Island as well as the Puget Sound Rhythm sessions every Thursday night.

WORKSHOP:  Olatunji Funk.  Learn and play songs from Baba Olatunji's stellar repertoire.

Seattle-based Afro-Caribbean dance and music group. Grupo Bayano was named after a Maroon Community in what is now Panamá that won autonomy from colonial Spain in 1570 due to the unity forged among African and Indigenous Peoples. Grupo Bayano continues in the spirit of unity of these and other Freedom Fighters as we work at addressing racism and other forms of oppression through community engagement with our cultural expressions. Grupo Bayano builds a vibrant, nurturing, and inspiring environment at our practices, performances, and community events for children, youth, adults, and elders.

WORKSHOP:

This will be a combined song, percussion, and dance class featuring Puerto Rican Bomba traditions. We will provide maracas and cuås sets for many participants to learn these small percussion instruments. The we will move on to songs and drumming ... followed by movement and dance.
