Dear SWPS Supporter, The Seattle World Percussion Society is determined to continue our mission of promoting the positive effects of drum and dance and offering opportunities for people to experience this powerful force in their lives. However, we’ve received fewer funds this year and have experienced increased costs as arts funding has been reduced. We’re busy now preparing for our 11th Annual World Rhythm Festival, to be held at the Seattle Center on April 25-27, 2003. As you know, last years festival was attended by more than 10,000 people over three days. We offered 65 workshops and 35 performances by 80 artists representing percussive cultures from around the globe. The entire festival has been, and will remain, completely free to the public. Your support makes this possible. We also continue to support the use of community rhythm events in local nonprofit organizations, correctional and rehabilitation facilities, schools, churches, hospices and large scale festivals. Our inventory of drums and percussion instruments has grown to more than 300, and we aim to increase that number. These drums are provided to local drum circle facilitators, many of whom have received professional level training in their craft. Your support makes this possible. As you can tell, we are hard at work supporting our drumming community and have very ambitious goals to better serve you. Won’t you please help us with your commitment to support these activities? With your membership, you'll also receive;
As always, we thank you immensely for your past support. Please join the Seattle World Percussion Society today – it makes our mission possible! Sincerely, Ed McNichol
