Mark your calendars! The 13th Annual World Rhythm Festival is May 20-22, 2005!

The Seattle World Percussion Society (SWPS) is a membership based 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Our members believe in the powerful effect that rhythm events can have on people's lives. This belief drives us to create opportunities for individuals to experience this positive effect in their lives. We do this by;

bulletProviding over 300 drums and liaisons with professionally trained drum circle facilitators and music therapists for small rhythm events in our communities. Offered at nonprofit organizations, community centers, woman's shelters, hospices, schools, prisons and other places of need, these events are wonderful opportunities to deliver the many positive metaphors present in rhythm events and let people try a new activity in a risk free environment.
bulletProviding the resources necessary for large scale community rhythm events. With our skill at delivering powerful community building events with an important diversity appreciation component, we provide instruments and staffing to host more than 300 people at a time. We've been a featured attraction at Bumbershoot, WOMAD, Summer Nights at the Pier, University Street Fair, Issaquah Salmon Days and more.
bulletProduce the World Rhythm Festival, an annual three day event in Seattle offered free to the public. The 10th annual Festival, held in 2001, offered more than 65 workshops and 35 performances by 80 artists representing percussive traditions, rhythm and dance from around the planet. Attended by more than 10,000 people, the internationally recognized Festival also features a marketplace, the Great Northwest Drum Circle, a dance and much more.

Our annual members are dedicated to the promotion of world percussion and dancing in the Pacific Northwest, and the use of drumming and dance for community building and diversity appreciation in our community. SWPS is comprised of Members who seek to advance the communication of the human spirit through the healing power of drumming, dancing and music, and to enhance cultural diversity and tolerance through personal interaction.

Here on our site you can find out about local drum and dance classes, and drum circles.  For what's going on in the Seattle scene, we recommend you subscribe to the Seattle Drum Jams Mailing List.  There are lots of events that will be coming up, so keep your eye on and this page.
